ACSA/AISC Steel Competiton

Crossing into Relief is located in Jimani, Dominican Republic connecting to Haiti, which shares the island of Hispaniola. The design process started as creating a utopian environment for both countries to benefit from. Visitors are greeted by existing markets with the view of el Lago de Azuei. The sleek, transparent, concrete, and steel facade is elevated on a platform which assists in the prevention of damages due to the high risk of flooding in the region. Crossing between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a breath of fresh air as the customs hall acts as a breezeway between the two countries, with open facades and clerestory ceilings.

The health clinic primarily provides aid for the citizens from Haiti who need further services that are not as easily accessible within their boundaries. This addition to the border station addresses the issue of over-population in the Dominican Republic and the lack of resources in Haiti. The health clinic is a site for the people to regain their health and faith. There will also be unlimited quantity of medical supplies, counseling, and factual information.
